Inspired Words

Wow, totally loved today's DWG study on Scripture. My mind is a little overwhelmed and I feel like I'm bursting at the seams! :)

Here are a couple of my takeaways:

1/ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

What does Scripture do? It teaches, rebukes, corrects and trains. In what? Righteousness. So that we can be what? Thoroughly equipped. To do what? Every good work.

Scripture is not just something we read and move on. Or something we read just to build up our knowledge so that we can say we've read the Bible. It's meant to be used by us so that through it, God can teach, rebuke, correct and train us to do His work. And for us to use it to teach, rebuke, correct and train others.

It's not an inanimate object. We need to make it personal - by ingesting it daily and applying it to our lives; and letting it come to life in our relationships with others. What will we do to make it personal today?

2/ Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. ~ 2 Peter 1:20-21

There is just way too much to say about this Scripture. My mind is a little boggled right now. But, the two things that stood out to me most was:

a/ Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. To carry means to lead, to move, to bring. The Holy Spirit was part of their journey. We can't speak from God if the Holy Spirit is not in us, if He is not leading us. Without the Holy Spirit, what we speak is not God's will. It is ours.

b/ The men spoke from God what He inspired them to say. What is God inspiring us to say? Are we willing to speak what God is inspiring in us?

I need to go and veg for a couple of minutes and let my mind take this all in!
