COACHING FAQ'S

1. What is life coaching?

From a secular point of view, life coaching involves a collaborative, one-to-one, confidential, ongoing, deliberately formed relationship in which you, the client, are guided by the coach to make better decisions, look at alternatives to current choices, identify tolerations, barriers, challenges, reach beyond your feelings of limitations and focus better to achieve your goals.

Secular coaching urges you, the client, to seek your own desires and goals. It encourages you to look within yourself for what you really want. The secular coach then works with you to achieve your stated goals and remove obstacles that get in the way of achieving success.

Coaching is client-centered, client-driven and coach-supported.

2. How is Christian life coaching different from secular life coaching?

Christian life coaching is a collaborative, one-to-one, confidential, ongoing, deliberately formed relationship in which you, the client, are guided by the coach to seek God's will for your life and align your life with His plans. This could involve helping you to have a deeper relationship with God, live a more godly lifestyle or discover and confidently live your unique calling.

Christian life coaching guides you to make decisions based on the Word of God, practice a Christ-centred mindset, keep your eyes fixed on God, fight distractions so that you can stay focused on your calling, gain clarity on your next steps, overcome your obstacles and roadblocks, trust in God's timing, track your personal progress and accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself.

Christian life coaching is action-oriented and helps you to move forward so that you can live your life wholeheartedly and passionately for God, discover and walk in your God-inspired dreams and fulfill His purpose and plans for your life.

Christian life coaching is Christ-centred, Bible-based and Spirit-led.

3. What does it mean that Christian life coaching is Christ-centred, Bible-based and Spirit-led?

In Christ-centred coaching, we encourage you to seek Christ first in everything that you do and align your life with His plans and purpose for you. When you are Christ-centred, you live in accordance with the Spirit and set your mind on what the Spirit desires. It is not about you. It's about what God, your Creator, wants for you.

Bible-based coaching uses the Bible to guide your thoughts, conduct, lifestyle, decisions and plans so that you are holding to the standards that God has established for His people.

Spirit-led coaching surrenders to the leading of the Holy Spirit through prayer, which results in anointed conversations, divine revelations, messages and inklings that can only come from God.

4. Will Christian life coaching help me to overcome my painful past?

The purpose of coaching is to guide you to make intentional decisions and take intentional action that will help you to progress and move forward in your life. For coaching to be effective, you would have to be in an emotionally healthy and stable place and hold a strong belief that God can and will work powerfully in your life.

Throughout the Gospels, we see that Jesus met people where they were at and released them so that they could move forward. Jesus asked many questions of his hearers and many of those questions addressed their faith and their desire and willingness to change: "What do you want me to do for you?" "Do you want to get well?" "Do you still have no faith?" "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" "Who do you say I am?"

Counseling/therapy is focused on the past and the present and helps you to deal with the things in your past and present that are hindering you from moving forward. Coaching is focused on the present and the future and helps you to take intentional action in the present so that you can live a fulfilled and purposeful life. If you are weighed down by heavy emotions and painful memories and are unable to make decisions, unable to follow through on decisions made, unable to stay focused on the future or you struggle with feelings of hopelessness, you may find it difficult to benefit from coaching.

Coaching is not therapy, counseling, mental health care or treatment for substance abuse. She Aspires is not a licensed mental health professional and coaching is not intended as a replacement for counseling, psychiatric interventions, treatment for mental illness, professional medical advice, legal counsel or other professional services.

We encourage you to seek God for direction and get the advice of those you trust, such as a pastor or health professional.

5. Why should I choose a Christian life coach?

As a Christian woman with a Biblical worldview, it is important that the coach you choose share the same worldview. Your worldview is inspired by the truth of God's words, not the philosophy and teachings of the world.

Philippians 3:17-18 says, "Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ."

Paul's words apply perfectly to Christian life coaching. There may be coaches who claim to provide Christian life coaching, but if their life, example and teachings does not model the Bible, they are, as Paul says, "living as enemies of the cross of Christ."

If it is your desire to seek God's will, vision, plans and purpose for your life, then you should choose to work with a coach who demonstrates this in their own life and can help you to achieve the same.
